Save these gentle creatures! Flying foxes in danger of culling!

Please sign this petition to help protect these gentle creatures. They do NOT need to kill the bats in Rockhampton! In NSW, they used heavy metal music to scare away bats from local parks and that worked! Why kill these poor creatures, simply looking for somewhere to live? (A task becoming harder and harder for them since their native food and roosting trees are being cleared at a frightening rate!)

Please help ban a cruel, sadistic fire torture of bulls in Spain!

Bulls deliberately set on fire and left to burn to death as part of the "Fire Bull Festival"! Please sign the petition at the link provided here

In Medinaceli, a picturesque town in the province of Soria, Spain, a "tradition" called "Toro Júbilo" brings shame on Spain. On the second weekend in November, balls of pitch (a sticky black substance made from tar or turpentine) will once again be stuck onto the horns of a bull and set on fire. The burning bull is called "Toro de Fuego" (literally "bull on fire").

The bull is then released onto the streets and can do nothing but run around in pain. The bull often smashes into walls in an attempt to douse the fire. The agony the bull must suffer is unimaginable. These fiery balls can burn for hours, and they burn the bull's horns, body and eyes and cause tremendous stress – all while spectators cheer and run around the victim until it dies a slow agonizing death. This practice serves nothing but to show the inhumanity of humanity!

Pig walks on two legs - See video!!!

"A pig who can walk on two legs has become a local celebrity in China. She is known by villagers as "Zhu Jianqiang" (Strong-willed Pig) after she was born with only two front legs and learned to balance on them well enough to walk.According to her owner, Wang Xihai, she was one of nine piglets born in a litter. He said: "My wife asked me to dump her but I refused as it's a life. I thought I should give her a chance to survive and unexpectedly she survived healthy."Several days after her birth Wang decided to train the two-legged piglet to walk by lifting it up by her tail. He said: "I trained her for a while each day. After 30 days she can now walk upside down quite well."Wang said since the birth of the pig, his home has been besieged by visitors. A circus even offered to buy for the pig for a large sum but Wang refused to sell. "She proved to us that no matter what form life is it should continue to live on. I won't sell it no matter how much the offer is." ♥

Stop the Polar Bear Rug Trade!! Please sign this petition

Polar bears are in big trouble from accelerating Arctic warming and vanishing sea-ice habitat. Incredibly, driven by skyrocketing fur prices, trophy hunting is still allowed and it's taking a devastating toll. Polar bear sport-hunting and trophy trade are prohibited in the United States, but international trade in polar bear parts is alive and well.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is now deciding whether it will move to protect polar bears under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. The agency is currently "undecided" on its position for the upcoming CITES meeting.

Canada kills around 500 bears annually and leads the world in exporting rugs and hunting trophies. As polar bear numbers plummet under pressure from climate change, the Canadian territory of Nunavut quadrupled its hunting quota this season.

Tell FWS to take a stand against this excessive killing: Stop the international trade in polar bears parts and lead the world in protecting Arctic species.

How to build a DIY solar air heater from used drink cans...

Ingenious and wonderful way to recycle old drink cans and make a solar heater!!! Totally amazing!!

The guy in the picture, Peter Rowan left his job as a self-described "corporate weenie", and instead took up teaching, writing and converting a shed into a reclaimed writer's studio. Because the studio was off-grid, electric space heating was not an option. So he set up a simple soda can space heater, using fans running off his solar panels to help channel the air.

Rowan is transparent about his own gaps in knowledge on the thermodynamics of solar space heating, and shares the ups and downs of his experiment. (Putting a panel that relies on convection on a relatively flat roof was probably not the smartest of ideas.) But once the installation was complete, he does feel like even on a cold, cloudy day he is getting a head start on heating the space compared to the ambient temperature outside.

Full instructions for building one of your own are detailed below and here also is a link to a video he shot on his phone which shows just how easy it is:

http://youtu.be/nuxanLdtwZQ

After you've seen and read what's involved we'd love to hear your comments on how you think this basic design could be improved on.

HOW DOES IT WORK

The units are typically installed on the outside walls of houses, and of course, in a location that gets a lot of sun. The idea is to draw air from near the floor of any room in a home, and pass it through the heating panel, which contains several columns of cans.

The air is then returned to the same room near the ceiling. The cans are stacked and have large holes cut in both ends to allow the air to pass inside them while the outside of the cans is getting hot from the sun.

What you’ll need

- 240 aluminum cans.
- 3 - 8 ft. 2x4s.
- 4 ft. x 8 ft. x 1/2 in. sheet of plywood.
- High temperature silicon.
- 4 ft. x 8 ft. sheet of Plexiglas or Lexan.
- A can of heat-resistant flat black spray paint.
- Plastic tubing.
- Drill Press with wide drill bits.
- Screws.
- Optional Air Blower (consider a solar-powered unit).

How to build the solar panel:

✦ Construct a wooden frame out the the 2x4s, approx. 4 ft. wide x 8 ft. high x 3 1/2 in. deep.

✦ Next cut a piece of plywood this size and nail it to the back of the frame.

✦ Drill a hole in the top center of the frame - this is where you'll connect your outlet hose.

✦ Drill a hole in the bottom of the frame - this is where your inlet hose will be connected.

✦ Drill large holes in the tops and bottoms from all the cans except for 16 which will be on the bottom row.

✦ For those, drill the holes in the tops and sides. Caution! Aluminum cans are sharp - use heavy work gloves or other means to hold them in place as you cut the hols out.

✦ Start placing your cans into the frame. Create 16 columns of 15 cans each. Stack them one at at time, sealing them together as you go along. Make sure the ones with side holes are on the bottom row. Allow the silicone sealant to cure.

✦ Spray the cans and frame with the heat-resistant flat black paint.

✦ Cover the frame with the sheet of Plexiglas or Lexan.

✦ Cut holes in the side of the building that line up with holes in the top and bottom of the solar panel. Air will be drawn from the building through the lower hole, which should be just above floor level, and be returned through the upper hole.

✦ Mount the completed panel on the exterior wall of the home.
Alternatively, you might mount the panel in a separate frame that will allow it to be tilted more toward the sun for better exposure.

✦ Install the blower at either the inlet or outlet. This is not essential, but will increase the efficiency of your solar heater.

This unit allows air to flow all around the cans as it moves through the panel.

A more efficient design will force all the air through the inside of the cans. This will also avoid exposure of the air to the black paint.

We live in a throw away society, and that includes animals...

People come up with all sorts of reasons...excuses...to dump their animal at the pound or (kill) shelters. Because there are far too many animals (due to puppy mills, breeders, and irresponsible owners who do not have their pets desexed) and not enough responsible, caring individuals available to adopt these animals, each day (kill) shelters and pounds kill hundreds of healthy pets to make way for the huge daily influx of dumped/surrendered pets. The following video focuses on this topic and why we should have our pets neutered. A family pet is a family member, and as such deserves our commitment to care and provide for them for the duration of their natural lives, no matter what our changing circumstances. Do not support further breeding of companion animals, and adopt a pet rather than buy a specially bred animal. Figures show that almost fifty percent of animals that end up in shelters and pounds are pedigree animals, most of which do not get adopted and end up put to sleep. Breeding animals or supporting the breeding of further animals leads to this continual tragic cycle of waste of life.

The Slaughter Begins

(Photograph of thoroughbred racing horse dumped at the slaughter house because it was injured or simply doesn't earn enough money for the owners anymore.)

Here is a thoroughbred race horse dumped at a slaughterhouses, a sight that will now become commonplace across America. They will be executed and cut up to be sold as meat for consumption in America thank to the Congress. Shame on them all. What happened to your promise to ban this?

Please sign the petition http://www.change.org/petitions/overturn-obamas-legalization-of-horse-slaughter-for-human-consumption

...and also contact your representatives to tell them how disgusted you are. We must stop this before it goes any further.

Charlize Theron talks about Puppy Mills (video)

Every year millions of animals (world-wide) are killed in shelters due to the huge annual influx of puppies and kittens - too many animals and not enough people to adopt these animals capable of providing caring, responsible, forever homes. People who refuse to have their animals de-sexed also add to this problem, but puppy mills need to be banned. Animals who are used as "breeders" in these puppy mills (or kitten mills) spend their lives trapped in tiny cages, never knowing what it is like to feel the grass beneath their feet or sun on their face. They are often killed cruelly or dumped when they can no longer breed, and often do not receive any medical treatment when they are sick or in pain. Disgusting "business" which should be stopped in all countries.
